INTEGRATED FIVE YEAR STUDY OF FIRST AND SECOND CYCLE
This curriculum is based on the provisions from the Bologna Declaration and the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) as well as the Law on Higher Education in the Republic of Macedonia.
CURRICULUM DETAILS:
The integrated five year study of first and second cycle at the Faculty of Architecture are in duration of five years i.e. ten semesters and for their successful accomplishment a student should obtain at least 300 credits of the courses according to the curriculum, as well as 4 credits from the compulsory practice.
The academic year starts on September 15 and ends on September 14 the following year. The academic year is divided in fall and spring semester. Fall semester starts on September 15 while spring semester starts on February 1.
Curriculum and course lectures are realized in the course of 19 weeks where all activities and foreseen obligations are realized by both professors and students.
Course lectures have been realized through a continuous system comprised of two segments:
After the completion of all course obligations the students may take exam/exams according to the course program for each course in the semester.
For the courses in the fall semester a double examination period has been established in January, while courses in spring semester have been provided by a single examination period in June and September. All exam terms have been previously scheduled in the yearly calendar of course realization.
Basic Goals of the Curriculum
1. Determining generic and professionally oriented competencies that should be acquired by students having graduated according to the established academic and professional degrees. Competencies are divided according to the different degrees of education, as follows:
a) Academic and professional degree – Master of Architecture, is the final vocation received after successful attendance and completion of five year integrated studies in architecture (unified first and second cycle of studies). This final vocation provides access to the profession Architect, which means the right to draw up design and planning documentation.
Students having completed five year studies and having acquired the competencies and knowledge foreseen with the curriculum may practice the profession and apply for the job positions, stipulated under the Law on Construction of the Republic of Macedonia in the area of architecture, urban planning, internal design, protection of construction heritage as well as the construction management of investment buildings. In addition, these students may be admitted to the first semester of the third cycle of studies (doctoral studies).
Part of the professional tasks these students are trained to perform are the following: design - managing the preparation of design documentation, planning – managing the preparation of planning documentation, management of buildings execution, preparation of bill of quantities and tender documentation, management of interior execution, preparation of project documentation and management of the execution of conservational and restoration works, preparation of audits to design and planning documentation, preparation of expert reports etc. Competences allow wide scope of specific working engagements related to the knowledge acquired during the studies and to the work in the departments of the public authorities and the local self-government, regarding the areas of planning and construction, as well as the work in insurance companies, banks, facilities for the production of construction materials etc.
b). Intermediary vocation - Bachelor of Architecture is received during the five year integrated studies after the third year, when students, after passing the intermediary final exam, may acquire a degree in undergraduate professional education in the area of architecture. This degree does not allow access to the profession of architect but does allow participation in the preparation of design and planning documentation.
After completing three year studies, students with intermediary professional degree have access to job positions related to participation in most of the above mentioned tasks under item a) as associates, but may not perform any of them individually.
