The Faculty of Architecture-Skopje is one of the 24 faculties within the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, the largest of all state universities in the Republic of Macedonia.
Until 2004, the Faculty of Architecture was the only higher education institution in the Republic of Macedonia that provided education of students in the field of architecture and urbanism, as well as their complementary activities at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies.
In the course of its 65 years of existence, the faculty has undergone several significant stages of development. The first studies of architecture were established in 1949 within the newly established Technical Faculty with two departments: architecture and civil engineering. Subsequently, in 1955 within the Technical Faculty, a new Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering was established comprised of two departments: Architecture and Civil Engineering. In 1976 the architecture department became an independent Faculty of Architecture offering a unique, carefully designed curriculum in the course of nine i.e. ten semesters.
From the beginning of academic year 2007/2008 the Faculty of Architecture employs a new curriculum of five year studies (studies of first and second cycle) according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The curriculum provides a Baccalaureate degree program after the third year of studies, through an intermediary final exam, providing a diploma with the professional degree Bachelor of architecture. At the end of the tenth semester, after the Master Thesis defense, the curriculum provides a diploma Master of Architecture. Pursuant to the Law on Construction this type of diploma leads directly to the profession architect i.e. provides the holder with an authorization from the Chamber of architects and other construction engineers.
Until 2012, at the Faculty of Architecture 4305 students have graduated and gained the degree Graduated Engineer Architect. According to the old curriculum 40 students have completed postgraduate studies and gained the scientific degree Master of technical science in architecture. The faculty provided mentor system of doctoral studies where 28 candidates have obtained the scientific degree Doctor of technical science in architecture.
Since 1992, the Faculty of Architecture has been organizing the International Summer School of Architecture with the active participation of over 600 domestic and 280 foreign students, professors and assistant professors from various countries in Europe and worldwide.
Throughout its 65 years of existence the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje has obtained high standards of education, respectable tradition and a reputation of a supreme higher education institution in architecture. Our students are provided with an exceptional quality education of theory and practice in the field of architectural design; history and theory of architecture and art; urbanism, urban planning and design; architectural structures; modern construction technologies as well as management of design and construction process. This allows the students to acquire high professional competencies in accordance with the highest European standards.
Today, we can proudly declare that the Faculty of Architecture within the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje has established itself as an eminent educational institution of an exceptional national significance.
